Our Time On Earth
Time is the most important thing
We humans have on earth,
As it decrees the boundries
Wherein to prove our worth.
We hope and pray and estimate
But never know for sure
One moment to the next how long
Our presence will endure.
We may be here tomorrow and
For many years ahead,
And sooner than a single breath
Our bodies may be dead.
It ought to make us understand
That we are only here
As long as God allows our lungs
To share the atmosphere.
And as we know that he creates
And takes all life away,
We should be conscious of our thoughts
And actions every day.
This poem was sent to me a few years ago, but it goes along with what I've been thinking about today. Today a really good friend would have been 25 years old. Since his accident last year, I'm constantly reminded that we are NOT guaranteed a long life.
